Olga Teresa Tañón Ortiz, born on April 13, 1967, in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter specializing in merengue and salsa. She began her musical career in the mid-1980s, performing with merengue groups such as Las Nenas de Ringo y Jossie and Chantelle. In 1992, she signed as a solo artist with WEA Latina, launching a career that has yielded over five million album sales.
Her early solo recordings earned immediate industry acclaim, with her album "Sola" receiving multiple nominations at the Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, and the 1994 album "Siente el Amor" earning multiple platinum certifications. Over her career, Tañón has won two Grammy Awards, three Latin Grammy Awards, and 29 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards. Additionally, she was named the "Godmother" of New York's Puerto Rican Day Parade in 1995 and became the first Puerto Rican chosen as Queen of the Miami Carnival in 1998.
Tañón has maintained an active recording schedule into the mid-2020s. Her recent releases include the 2024 album "Así Yo Soy" and its title single, alongside other 2024 tracks such as "No Sé Quien Soy", "Se Vale", "Lluvia", and "Por Si Te Me Vas". In 2025, she continued her output with several singles, including "PR24SIETE", "Mi Gran Noche", "Señor Bendito", "Sin Ti", and two versions of "El Reclamo".
