Willy Chirino

Willy Chirino was born on April 5, 1947, in Consolación del Sur, Pinar del Río, Cuba. In 1961, he emigrated to the United States as part of Operation Pedro Pan, settling in Miami, Florida, where he began his musical career. Chirino became a pioneering figure in the development of the "Miami Sound," a style that fuses traditional salsa with elements of rock, jazz, pop, and Brazilian music.

Over a career spanning several decades, Chirino has recorded over 20 albums, winning a Grammy Award in 2006. Beyond his musical achievements, he has been recognized for his philanthropic efforts through the Willy Chirino Foundation, earning recognition from UNICEF in 1996, the Billboard Humanitarian Award, and the Hispanic Heritage Award from the United States Department of State.

Chirino remains active in the recording industry, delivering music across genres like salsa, cha cha cha, son cubano, and timba. His recent discography includes the 2022 album Sigo Pa'lantee and remastered editions of his Travesía series. Between 2021 and 2025, he released numerous singles, including "Yo Soy Cubano," "La Música," and several 2025 releases such as "HASTA EL FONDO," "La Noche Perfecta (Remix)," "Déjenme Irme Pa'l Bohío," and "Quien Dijo."
