Julio César Sanabria

Julio César Sanabria was born on April 7, 1975, in Guayama, Puerto Rico. Raised in the traditions of Puerto Rican jíbaro music, he began improvising décimas at the age of eight. At eighteen, he won the Bacardí trovador competition, establishing himself as the youngest performer to win the national title.

Throughout his career, Sanabria has focused on preserving and promoting Puerto Rico's native musical styles. He is recognized as a pioneer in fusing the traditional Puerto Rican décima with other genres, a stylistic approach reflected in his 2014 album "Regreso al Campo," which was designed to introduce younger generations to typical island music. In 2021, he marked his long-standing career with the compilation "4 Décadas de Tradición," and in late 2023, he performed his first solo concert at the Centro de Bellas Artes in Santurce.

Active in the tropical and nueva trova genres, Sanabria has released numerous singles and compilations. His later works include the compilation "Regalo a mis Reyes" (2022), the singles "La Gozadera" (2023) and "Cuba y Puerto Rico Son" (2025), and the album "Raíces Puertorriqueñas" (2026).
