Ommy Cardona, known as "El Sonero de Arecibo," is a Puerto Rican salsa singer and percussionist born on October 21 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Raised in a family of musicians, Cardona was influenced early in his life by his grandfather Ramón Cardona, his father César Cardona, and his uncle Tony Cardona. Over a solo career spanning more than 20 years, he has worked as a vocalist and percussionist, collaborating with prominent figures in salsa such as Gilberto Santa Rosa.
Cardona's solo recording catalog began to take shape with the release of the 2014 single "500 Años de Historia," followed by "Quiero Sentir Tu Piel" in 2015. Over the next decade, his catalog expanded with singles such as "Sorbo a Sorbo" (2019), "De Cualquier Manera" (2020), "Seré" (2022), and "Dónde Estás" (2023).
In 2024, Cardona collaborated with vocalist Choco Orta on a new rendition of the classic song "Encantigo," alongside releasing the solo single "La Sospecha." His subsequent releases include the 2025 single "Tres Soneros Tres Amigos" and the 2026 track "De Santurce a Cali, Del Barrio a La 15." The latter single, arranged by Ramón Sánchez, was designed as a cultural fusion celebrating both Puerto Rican and Colombian heritage.
