Alex Matos, born on February 12, 1976, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is a Dominican salsa singer often referred to as "El salsero de ahora." His musical development began at the age of five when he performed as the lead vocalist for a neighborhood children's group. He later pursued formal vocal training with professor Marianela Sánchez and worked with arranger Sandy Jorge to define his musical style, which focuses primarily on salsa and pop ballads.
Matos achieved significant prominence with popular recordings such as "Si Entendieras," "Una Noche No Es Bastante," and "El Cariño Es Como Una Flor," alongside his 2011 album "Ponte en Salsa." In 2013, his impact on the genre was recognized at the Premios Soberano in the Dominican Republic, where he was awarded "Salsero del Año" (Salsa Artist of the Year).
While predominantly known for his salsa recordings, Matos's repertoire also encompasses merengue and bachata. His discography includes the albums "Salsa Sabor & Sentimiento" and "Para Ti Anthony...El Tributo" (both 2021), as well as a series of singles. Among these are "Tu Ausencia" (including a 2019 remix featuring Farina), "Ya Me Enteré" (2020), and 2023 releases such as "Mi Fracaso" and "Abrazame muy fuerte."
