Erik Alejandro Iglesias Rodríguez, known professionally as Cimafunk, is a Grammy-nominated Cuban musician born in 1989 in Pinar del Río, Cuba. His stage name pays tribute to the Cimarrons—Cubans of African concept who escaped and resisted slavery—fused with the word "funk." Originally a medical student, Iglesias Rodríguez transitioned to music, participating in the local Trova movement in his hometown during the 2000s. His sound draws from traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms and American funk and soul artists such as James Brown, George Clinton, and Marvin Gaye.
Cimafunk's work blends funk, hip-hop, and Afro-Caribbean musical styles, earning him critical acclaim and Grammy nominations. Following his emergence in 2017, he released his studio album "Pa' Tu Cuerpa" in 2024, which featured the singles "Dime" and "Pretty."
In 2025, his output remained prolific with several single releases, including "Ese Besito," "Que Bola," "Rapsodia Negra," "La Sugar," "Deskara," "Huele a Funk," and "Mala Maña." During the same year, he also released "Mambo Influenciado: Latin GRAMMY Session 25 Años" and "Dime (Remix)."
