Born in Havana into a musical family, she began playing piano at an early age and later studied classical piano and composition at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory.

Her music reflects the richness of Cuban tradition, blending salsa, timba, son, bolero, filin, Latin jazz, bossa nova, and classical influences. She is widely recognized as one of the key voices of modern Cuban music and one of the pioneering women in timba, becoming one of the first female artists to lead a timba band internationally.

Nuviola has earned major recognition throughout her career, including Grammy and Latin Grammy wins and nominations for projects such as Como Anillo al Dedo, A Journey Through Cuban Music, Viento y Tiempo, Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso, and Live in Marciac with Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

In 2022, she became the first Latin American artist to perform in a special tropical music segment on the Grammy Awards telecast. She also portrayed Celia Cruz in the Telemundo series Celia, bringing the legacy of the Queen of Salsa to audiences around the world.
