Marcial Istúriz, known by the nickname "El negro de Capaya," is a Venezuelan salsa vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger. He was born on September 25, 1976, in Capaya, a town in the Barlovento region of Miranda State, Venezuela, and grew up in Petare. Recognized for his skills as a sonero, bassist, and percussionist, he has made significant contributions to the Venezuelan salsa scene.
During the early 2000s, Istúriz recorded with the prominent salsa group Bailatino, performing on the albums "Bailatino llegó…con todo!" (2003) and "Ante los ojos del mundo" (2005). He also collaborated with percussionist Joel "Pibo" Márquez and La Descarga Criolla on their 2006 album "Homenaje a los reyes de la salsa," and worked with band leaders like Jenzi Madriz and Javier Plaza. Outside of his performing career, he operates as an arranger and producer, serving as the head of LSMN Producciones, LLC.
As a solo artist, Istúriz's music covers salsa and timba genres. He released his self-titled album "Marcial Isturiz" in 2014. Since 2020, he has consistently released singles, including "La Fiesta Es Hasta Las 3" and "Suenan los Cueros" (2020), "Muchacho Barrigón" (2021), and "Cualquiera" (2024). His active musical output continued into 2025 with the singles "Guerreros" and "Loco, Loco, Loco."
