Humberto "Tito" Nieves, born on June 4, 1958, in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, and raised in New York City, is a prominent salsa singer known for his powerful tenor voice, which earned him the nickname "El Pavarotti de la Salsa." Raised in a musical family, Nieves began performing as a teenager. He launched his professional career in New York participating in the group Orquesta Cimarron.
During the 1980s and early 1990s, Nieves established himself as one of the leading figures in the salsa genre. His work helped popularize salsa music globally and influenced subsequent generations of artists, including Marc Anthony and Victor Manuelle.
Nieves has maintained a continuous presence as a recording artist, with his work spanning genres like salsa and merengue. His active output includes a sequence of singles released in the 2020s, such as "No Soy" in 2022, followed by "Volver a Casa," "Te Busqué," "Soy," and "Aunque Sea en Otra Vida" in 2023. His recent catalog features "Bochinchero" and "Bella" in 2024, alongside several 2025 singles including "Y Si Mañana," "Hay Amores (Nueva Version)," "Rompecintura," "Sin Cuenta," and "JACARANDOSA."
