Haila María Mompié González, professionally known as Haila Mompié or simply Haila, is a Cuban singer specializing in son cubano, timba, and salsa. Born on January 28, 1974, in the eastern province of Las Tunas, Cuba, she was raised by a singer father and a stylist mother. She initially studied dance before shifting her focus to singing. She rose to prominence in the Cuban music scene during the 1990s as a vocalist for the popular timba group Bamboleo and later served as the lead vocalist for Azúcar Negra.
In 2001, after returning from a European tour, Haila embarked on a solo career. Her self-titled debut solo album, "Haila," was produced by singer Issac Delgado and recorded as a tribute to Celia Cruz. During her solo career, Haila expanded her musical direction beyond timba to incorporate wider Latin styles. She signed an exclusive contract with Artex's artistic representation agency, Musicalia, and released her "Haila Live" album with the Cuban record label Bis Music, documenting a live concert performance at the National Theater of Cuba.
Haila's recording career has continued into the 2020s with several projects, including the 2020 children's album "Un Canto a la Sonrisa" and the 2021 tribute album "Con Todo Respeto Haila Canta a Armando Manzanero." Her subsequent output features various singles and collaborations, including "Sarandonga" in 2023, "Llegó la Mompié!" in 2024, and the 2025 releases "TRIBUTO AL CABALLERO DEL SON" and "Córranse Ahí - Festival de la Salsa - 60 Aniversario (LIVE)."
