Puerto Rican salsa vocalist Charlie Cruz was born in 1975 in Puerto Rico. The oldest of seven siblings, he spent his childhood in the town of Naguabo before moving to Paterson, New Jersey, during his adolescence. His involvement in music began at the age of ten when he served as a backup singer in the orchestra of his father, Fonzy Cruz. He was heavily influenced by classic Afro-Caribbean artists, including Héctor Lavoe.
Cruz's professional career in the salsa industry spans over twenty years, earning early recognition within the Puerto Rican recording scene. Over the years, he has continued to perform and record while dividing his residence between Puerto Rico and Tampa, Florida.
Active in recording catalogs since 1999, Cruz has sustained a consistent release schedule. His modern output includes the 2023 album "Tentaciones Vol 2" alongside singles like "No Vale la Pena Enamorarse" and "La Cita". His subsequent work features the 2024 single "Nuestro Aniversario", 2025's "Lo Que Se Ve No Se Pregunta", and the 2026 album "Invicto".
