Alexander Abreu Manresa is a Cuban trumpet player, singer, and songwriter born on September 6, 1976, in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Raised in a family of nonprofessional musicians, he received early musical guidance from his grandfather, who taught him to play the tres guitar. He later attended the National Art Schools (ENA) in Havana, graduating in 1994. By the age of twenty, Abreu had established himself as a highly regarded musician within the Cuban music scene.
Abreu is widely recognized as the leader, composer, and arranger of the Cuban band Havana D'Primera. Known for his work in the timba, salsa, and son cubano genres, he has become one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Cuban music. Over his career, he has written numerous hits and contributed extensively as both a trumpet player and vocalist.
